At Ladies that UX Amsterdam we started organising the Mentorship Program in 2018 and it’s been growing ever since. It’s a 4 months program once a year and our goal is to help UXers who want to grow in their skillset. We match mentors and mentees based on their skills and goals and we organise some events throughout the program.

This was the third year and we wanted to take it to the next level. So a couple of months before the program we gathered together and we planned a lot of cool workshops and events throughout the whole program…

People working together as a team
People working together as a team

In September 2018 I started a new job at a big company in the Netherlands, Coolblue. It was the biggest company in my job history so far and I also started working in a very big and important team. So as you can imagine, stakeholder management became a big challenge for me.

During this year and a half I learnt and improved a lot at stakeholder management. Besides, how I see and approach my collaboration with them today it’s a lot different. In this article, I want to share the tricks that best work for me so far. …

Starting a new job is very exciting. New place, new colleagues and new product. But, it’s also a very uncomfortable time because you don’t have your place yet. You’re trying to get to know your teammates, figuring out what their role is. And in general, you are trying to understand how the company works as a whole. It’s also a time when you have a lot of free time because it takes a couple of days or even weeks until you have real work to do. In the end, your team also has to get used to you and prepare…

The situation

Synple is a SaaS application in the logistics field. It allows transportation companies to exchange shipments among them to have more optimised trips and reduce the empty km on the road.

Each transportation company receives a huge amount of shipments/orders per day from their clients. During the day, they have to decide which of those shipments they want to outsource to other transportation companies in order to have optimised trips. Besides, they also insource some shipments as well.

To help our customers with this task, we have a feature called Business Rules. With this feature our customers can set up…

I hear a lot of times people struggling to decide if they should accept a job offer or not. “Should I accept this lower salary?, Should I accept working for this industry?, Should I accept commuting for 2 hours a day?”, Etc. I also had these struggles. But this is why a personal development plan is must-to-have in your professional life.

Because let’s face it, everyone has career goals, even though sometimes we’re not 100% conscious about them. Since we started studying a degree we have them.

But, it’s better to be conscious of them and take ownership. In the…

New year, a new beginning.

We’re at that time of the year when we look back at the last year and we evaluate our achievements and failures. Besides, most of us set new goals every January.

If you’ve been reading my blog during 2018 you’ll know that I set up goals for each quarter of the year, instead of yearly. But before that, let’s go and evaluate what’ve happened during 2018.

What I’m proud of:

  • We organised 15 meetups at LTUX Amsterdam. One of them I organised it almost by myself! …

It all started in December 2017, I was kind of new in Amsterdam back then (I’m still am haha) and I started to join some meetup communities to meet new people in tech and also learn more about UX and tech.

One of my goals is to get out of my comfort zone. I want to grow professionally and personally and I believe that we can only achieve that by seeking challenges. This is one of the reasons why I decided to join Ladies that UX Amsterdam (a.k.a LTUX AMS) a year ago.

I remember when I joined LTUX AMS…

I worked for half a year in a startup which its target audience was very busy professionals, between 35 and 55 years, 90% men and not very tech-savvy. It was a very complicated field, not only for its target audience but also the company was in the logistics field which is very complex. They have a lot of different roles, different rules and their daily job is complicated.

So considering all this it was a challenge for me to design for such users because it was the first time for everything, first time designing for this type of audience and…

It’s incredible but we’re already in October! This means the last quarter of the year just started and I need to set up my personal & professional goals for this last period.

But first, let’s take a look at my goals for the third quarter:

  • Finish one course in IDF: This one I did it. I finished a course on User Research. Now I’m quite close on finishing another one about Usability.
  • Start learning Javascript: Ummm this one I didn’t start it :/. …
